How much does a new boiler cost, really?

Why boiler quotes vary so much

A boiler quote isn't just the price of the appliance. It covers the boiler itself, labour, any parts needed to connect it to your existing pipework and flue, removal and disposal of your old boiler, and (often) a warranty. Two quotes for the same boiler can look very different depending on what's actually included.

What affects the price

The boiler's output (measured in kW) needs to match your home's size — the number of rooms, radiators and bathrooms you have. A bigger home generally needs a higher-output boiler, which costs more.

Where the new boiler goes matters too. If it's a straightforward swap in the same location as your old one, installation is usually quicker and cheaper. Moving the boiler to a new room, or changing where the flue exits the building, adds labour and materials.

If you're switching boiler type — say, from a regular boiler with a cylinder to a combi — there's often a 'conversion' cost, since pipework needs to be reworked and the old cylinder and tanks removed.

What a clear quote should include

Before you commit, it's worth checking a quote clearly states: the exact boiler make and model, what's covered by the manufacturer's warranty and for how long, whether removal of your old boiler is included, and whether the price is genuinely final or subject to change once an engineer sees the job in person.

With JustFix, the price you're quoted online is based on the details you give us about your home, and covers the boiler, installation and removal of your old system — there's nothing added on the day.

Optional extras worth knowing about

A smart heating controller (from around £120–£350 depending on the model) lets you manage your heating from your phone and can help lower bills over time. A power flush, which clears sludge and debris from your existing radiators and pipework, is sometimes recommended — particularly on older systems — to protect your new boiler and keep it running efficiently.
